Spotlight clipboard history vs Marzin
Built in recall or persistent edge rail
Both can bring back something you copied. They are made for different jobs.
Start with Spotlight
On macOS Tahoe 26 or later, Spotlight can search and browse text, images, links, and files you recently copied. Open Spotlight with Command-Space, then press Command-4. Copy the item you want, return to your destination, and press Command-V.
Apple’s guide to Spotlight clipboard history also explains how to enable it and clear its history.
When Spotlight is enough
- You use macOS Tahoe 26 or later.
- You occasionally need to recover something you copied recently.
- You want the built-in search surface and do not need a standing workspace.
When Marzin helps
Marzin is a persistent private edge rail for macOS 14 or later. It keeps clips, copied file references, links, images, and quick notes beside your work. You can pin material you reuse and search what is visible instead of reopening a temporary history each time.
- You want working material to remain visible at the screen edge.
- You mix clipboard items with quick Markdown notes.
- You want pins and a longer-lived workspace for repeated tasks.
The short answer
If Spotlight covers your recent recall, use it. Choose Marzin when the clipboard needs to become a persistent working margin rather than a history you open only to search.
Marzin is free to start. Pro is a $9.99 one-time in-app purchase. No subscription. See Marzin or download it from the Mac App Store.
